“Ephemera” in Engineering

In recent year countries spend billions of dollars to make artificial islands for different purposes. The logic behind these projects are mostly economical and have development essence in them but most have failed to address the environmental conditions that each have been placed in, water. Considering the nature and water as one of its powerful elements the need for new approach to design and engineering of these projects seems necessary. This project is trying to investigate this new approach by creating new infrastructures or mega structures that could manage to survive nature for years and feed the political, social and economical needs of different regions. To elaborate, the project is to design concrete gravity base barges that would serve as transportation element that could facilitate many purposes within and beyond them. The elegancy of this project is in its multi disciplinary approach, from engineering to architecture and finally art of expressing it though exhibition. The major results that this project is trying to accomplish are finding new typological perspectives to one of the most important infrastructural pieces of our era, transportation facilities but in water.

To address the impact of this idea on our environment, society and politics the project would test different factors through models. The models would help to test the power of gravity and bouncy of floating infrastructures made of concrete in different environmental and contextual conditions. The other test is to evaluate how this project can transform our lives through being placed in water. The water has no border so as the human ambition for achieving peace and better life.
